Paul Rowe, 19, graduated from Plantation High School and continued to have a lasting impact on the lives of the individuals he encountered at Broward College. Paul was known as “Young Scholar” who aspired to be both a doctor and a hospital owner. He was "a winning member of the Broward College Brain Bowl Team, Vice President of Scholarship of Mu Mu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, a member of the Robert “Bob” Elmore Honors Institute, a founding member of the Honors Student Committee (HSC), Vice President of the African Student Union, the Florida African American Student Association Region Five Political Chairperson, and a member in the Black and Latino Male Mentorship Program." “Not only that,” said Tony Grayson, “he was a great friend and a positive person to so many people! Everyone knew and loved Paul. We know that he had so much more to accomplish. We are just fortunate to have known him for the short time that we did. It is difficult to bear the loss of such a profound man but he will be greatly missed. Rest In Peace, Paul Rowe.”
In the wake of Paul Rowe’s death, his classmates have created several online forums to commemorate the “Young Scholar” they remember as a kind man with a remarkable intellect. Facebook pages have been flooded with outpouring of condolences and memories of Paul. “I still can’t believe he is gone.” said Bahareh Heidari Afousi, a fellow HSC and PTK leader. “He made us laugh and think about serious matters.” Mazen Mbayed said, “We will keep his memory alive. HSC members have changed the name of the their scholarship fund to the “Paul Rowe Honors Student Committee Memorial Scholarship”, he was also posthumously selected as the HSC Scholar of the Month. “His memory serves to challenge us to maximize and cherish each experience in our lives because every moment and person we encounter is precious,” remarked Dr. Lulrick Balzora. Paul Rowe will be honored at the Heritage Society Luncheon, where we will purchase the scholarship in his name.
