Two HSC members have been selected for the All-Florida Academic Team. The Florida College System announced that all six of Broward College’s nominees were selected for the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All-Florida Academic Team. Jackeline Davey, President of the Omega Phi Chapter of PTK (North Campus), was chosen on the ALL-Florida First Academic Team!
This year’s team includes 103 students which represent Florida’s state, community and junior colleges, one independent college and one independent university. According to Dr. Irmgard Bocchino, “this is a first for Broward College that all six of our college’s nominees made the first and second Academic Teams!” The following were selected on the All Florida Second Academic Team: Bahareh Heidari Afousi (Central), Silvina Di Pietro (Central), Jose Aristmano (North), Erika Collante (South), and Darwin Lopez Mendoza (South). Bahareh Heidari Afousi and Silvina Di Pietro have key roles in the honors community at Central Campus. Heidari is a prominent leader at Honors Student Committee, the lead Peer Academic Advisor, and treasurer of PTK Mu Mu Chapter. Di Pietro is also a member of the Honors Student Committee, Phi Theta Kappa, the Pre-Pharmacy club member and plays tennis for the Broward College Women's Tennis Team. Her impressive artwork has been featured on the Honors Institute showcase and sold at the HSC Scholarship Dinner.
Each year in the spring, Phi Theta Kappa holds an International Convention attended by 4,000 chapter members, advisors, alumni, and college presidents. During the convention, the PTK All-Florida Academic Team is named to recognize outstanding students. This year the awards ceremony will be held as a dinner at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotel on April 8, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. as part of PTK’s Annual International Convention.
