Feeding South Florida has been helping to fight hunger in South Florida for the past 25 years. Its mission statement summarizes its core values: “Feeding South Florida, a not-for-profit organization, empowers other South Florida not-for-profit organizations to feed needy people and improve their lives. We do this by providing food and other grocery products; and by educating and engaging our community to fight hunger and poverty.” They work with over 800 not-for-profit agencies throughout four counties in order to reach out to those in need.
One of the ways in which Feeding South Florida helps reduce waste is by collecting sealed unused food items that are leftover from food shows and conventions, and accepting contributions and sorting the food. As members of the Honors Student Committee we engage ourselves in giving our helping hand and showing our commitment to our community by getting involved with the Feeding South Florida.
We volunteer to assist in sorting and collecting unused non-perishable foods and canned goods, so that they can be distributed to needy and hungry families.
