2010 Coca-Cola National Finalist

Silvina Di PietroPlease join me in congratulating Silvina Di Pietro. She was recently selected in the second team for the ALL USA Florida Academic Team. Now, she has been selected as a 2010 COCA-COLA NATIONAL FINALIST! Selection as a Coca-Cola Finalist was based on scores earned in the All-USA Academic Team competition. This scholarship is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and is administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Finalists receive a $1,000 prize. Again, take every opportunity to congratulate Silvina for her outstanding achievement, which earned our entire college, PTK Mu Mu Chapter, the Honors Institute, and HSC this recognition.

Competitive Edge Exposes Students to State Leaders

On March 7th, 2010, fourteen Competitive Edge students of Broward College traveled to the capital of Florida to shadow state representatives and senators. Competitive Edge is a scholastic leadership program created by Dr. Willis Holcombe, Florida Chancellor of Community Colleges and Former President of Broward College. It provides students with the opportunity to observe, learn and put into practice leadership skills and qualities, for future leadership roles. Read more...

 

All-Florida Academic Team Announced

Two HSC members have been selected for the All-Florida Academic Team. The Florida College System announced that all six of Broward College’s nominees were selected for the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All-Florida Academic Team. Jackeline Davey, President of the Omega Phi Chapter of PTK (North Campus), was chosen on the ALL-Florida First Academic Team!

Charity dinner feeds into scholarship fund

The Honors Student Committee (HSC), an elite club at Broward College (BC), held a charity dinner to raise funds for scholarships. Mazen Mbayed, a member of HSC, described that the goal of the dinner was “to raise funds for incoming high school students that are economically deprived.” Enrolling in college can be a hard endeavor for many students and their families in this economically-challenging time. HSC’s goal is to help lessen a student’s educational expenses at BC.
